DALLAS (Reuters) - The first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States took a turn for the worse on Sunday, slipping from serious to critical condition, as health officials reported fielding scores of possible cases around the country that proved to be false alarms. Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said news of the Ebola patient in Dallas had alerted hospitals nationwide to check incoming patients for potential risks, particularly those who had recently traveled from the center of the outbreak in West Africa.

HONG KONG PROTESTS - Chinese Government Sends in its Triad Mafia to Attack Protesters

Eight triad gangsters have been arrested after allegedly attacking pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong. Police announced today that they had arrested 19 people after bloody clashes between groups of supporters yesterday, of whom a number belonged to the notorious organised crime gang.

“We’re losing money,” one woman shouted from atop a ledge in the middle of Nathan Road, a congested shopping street in Mongkok, as members of the crowd called on her to leave. Meanwhile, reports surfaced Friday that pro-Beijing activists were also confronting protesters at another demonstration hotspot in Causeway Bay.

A young man drops a box full of water bottles on the street, and ten people come running to help. As the garbage trucks roll in, volunteers help clean the streets, paying close attention to sorting the recyclable bottles from the trash. This is a protest like no other. It is one of calm, respect and politeness. There are no signs of hostility yet. On Tuesday night, the people were left to run the show. On Wednesday morning, the police formed blockades only near the Oct. 1 National Day flag ceremony, protecting VIP guests from the tired, quiet crowd.

Young protesters, disenfranchised and frustrated, take to the streets to fight a government that is ignoring their demands. At first peaceful, the protests are met with the heavy hand of riot police. Photographs of resilient demonstrators -- some standing obstinate amid the clouds of tear gas, others covered in pepper spray -- flood the Internet. Hong Kong's business elite, Chinese President Xi Jinping asserted that Beijing will not yield. censoring posts on Weibo, a popular social media site -- "Hong Kong" is now the most widely deleted search term on the social media site -- and Instagram was blocked for the first time in Hong Kong.

Occupy Central, a pro-democracy group pushing for genuine universal suffrage in Hong Kong, civil disobedience campaign aimed at sending a strong protest message to the central government in Beijing. and scaled a fence to invade the city's main government compound after a week of peaceful action. Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. The Hong Kong Federation of Students extended class boycotts indefinitely.

Along with Hong Kong and Chinese officials, some of Hong Kong's most powerful tycoons have spoken out against the Occupy movement, warning it could threaten the city's business and economic stability. Over 100 pro-democracy students stormed Hong Kong government headquarters and scuffled with police late on Friday in protest against the Chinese government's tightening grip on the former British colony.

Demonstrators also have occupied the upscale Pacific Place shopping mall, located near the main protest site, organizers said Sunday evening. They said the number of protesters continues to grow. The pro-democracy advocacy group -- which is not affiliated with the broader anti-capitalist Occupy movement -- has been vowing to lead a campaign of civil disobedience in the face of China's decision to control what candidates can run for Hong Kong's top office.

Many in the city, which under British rule enjoyed considerable political freedom, fear a rollback of the city's political autonomy, agreed between Britain and China under the Basic Law. The Basic Law, which serves as a de facto constitution, was written in the lead-up to the 1997 handover of sovereignty.

The sit-in is to protest against China's plan to vet nominees for the leadership of the former British colony, dashing hopes for full universal suffrage at 2017 polls. The goal is to maintain calm during demonstrations, as the 'sunflower' movement did in Taipei,

EBOLA ON A PLANE - CDC Keeps Passengers on Airplane At Newark Airport as Man Shows Ebola Symptoms

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials were called to Newark Liberty International Airport Saturday after a passenger believed to be from Liberia showed signs of possible Ebola symptoms.

The passenger was reportedly vomiting as the flight landed in New Jersey and was immediately taken to University Hospital in Newark for further evaluation, according to ABC News.

A CDC Hazmat crew, fully dressed in protective gear, removed the passenger and his daughter from United Airlines flight 998 arriving from Brussels, ABC reported.

The remaining passengers were quarantined, but have since been allowed to leave after the passenger in question was reportedly determined noncontagious.

A senior federal official told ABC News that the man exhibited “flu-like” symptoms.

“He’s now being treated with protocols as if he has it, but no clear indication at this point that he does,” the official said.

The airline’s immediate statement:

“Upon arrival at Newark Airport from Brussels, medical professionals instructed that customers and crew of United flight 998 remain on board until they could assist an ill customer,” the statement said. “We are working with authorities and will accommodate our customers as quickly as we can.” A travel ban to the countries facing an Ebola outbreak could paradoxically make the problem worse, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden said during a Saturday press conference. Frieden said the CDC would consider any and all precautions, but warned that a travel ban could make it harder to get medical care and aid workers to regions dealing with the outbreak. He cited the recent delay African Union aid workers experienced trying to get to Liberia.

“Their ability to get there was delayed by about a week because their flight was canceled and they were stuck in a neighboring country,” he said. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Tom Frieden vowed to “stop Ebola in its tracks” in the United States while acknowledging that the Dallas outbreak could become larger than one case. “I’m not going to promise that we can stop this at just one case, but I can tell you we have the advantage because the right steps are being taken,

Officials said on Saturday that a sick passenger and his daughter that were taken off a flight from Brussels to Newark over fears he might have Ebola, does not have the disease, ABC News reported. The pair, who are believed to be from Liberia, had been escorted off the plane by officials in HAZMAT gear from the Centers for Disease Control.

A flight was quarantined at Newark Airport this afternoon after two passengers became sick, prompting fears of Ebola. According to the News, a father and daughter (who are believed to be from Liberia) were removed from United Airlines Flight 998 after flying seven hours from Brussels. The father was vomiting and "exhibiting symptoms believed to be associated with Ebola" during the flight, but the CDC has now cleared him of Ebola. United released this statement about the plane, which contained 255 passengers, and was quarantined for nearly two hours: "Upon arrival at Newark Airport from Brussels, medical professionals instructed that customers and crew of United flight 998 remain on board until they could assist an ill customer. We are working with authorities and will accommodate our customers as quickly as we can."

ISIS Threat On Military FAMILIES in U.S.

Seems ISIS is using social media among other things , to find the address of military families in the U.S.
http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/10/03/...
An Army intelligence bulletin is warning U.S. military personnel to be vigilant after Islamic State militants called on supporters to scour social media for addresses of their family members – and to “show up [at their homes] and slaughter them." The assessment, obtained by Fox News, came from the Army Threat Integration Center which issues early warnings of criminal and terrorist threats to Army posts worldwide. The advisory warns military personnel and their families about the Islamic State, or ISIS, calling on supporters to target their homes. While there is no independent intelligence to corroborate the ISIS threats, the bulletin recommends more than a dozen precautions to military personnel to protect their homes -- and their online profiles.

Webster Tarpley: McCain Confirmed as Meeting with Cannibal.

McCain Confirmed as Meeting with Cannibal, Kidnapper, and Caliph; Biden Confesses Turkey, Saudis, and Emirates Funded ISIS Terrorists Out of Desperation to Topple Assad; Turkey’s Erdogan Responds with Threats; Pattern of Security Crises Around Obama Demonstrates War Party Intent to Extort War; Democrats Still Silent on McConnell’s Austerity Promise to Koch; #ArrestMcCain4ISIS Spreading.

US Vice President Joseph Biden has — for reasons still being clarified — just dished up a large portion of truth about recent events in Syria. Biden’s revelation came during an October 3 speech to Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Biden was responding to a question about US policy regarding Syria.

“Our allies in the region were our biggest problem in Syria,” Biden said. “The Turks are great friends and I have a great relationship with Erdogan. The Saudis, the Emiratis, etc. But what were they doing? They were so determined to take down [Syrian President Bashar al-]Assad and essentially have a proxy Sunni-Shia war that they poured hundreds of millions of dollars and tens of thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad. Except the people being supplied were Al-Nusra and Al-Qaeda and extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world. We couldn’t convince our colleagues to stop supplying them.”

Biden added that these countries had “awakened” to the threat from IS and other militants: “It took a while for Turkey, a Sunni nation, to figure out that ISIL was a direct and immediate threat to their well-being,” Biden commented.

Biden also claimed that Erdogan had confessed his own mistakes directly to the Vice President. “He said, ?You were right. We let too many people through.? Now they?re trying to seal their border,” the Vice President said.

While not the whole story by any means, these observations are more accurate than any description of the Syrian crisis coming thus far from the US government. Indeed, Biden with this statement has endorsed the basic contentions of Assad, Moallem, Mekdad, and other Syrian officials about the nature of the Syrian destabilization.

Apoplectic over Biden’s speech was by contrast Turkey’s megalomaniac neo-Ottoman strongman Erdogan, whose main divergence from ISIS is that Erdogan wants the post of Sultan and Caliph for himself, and not for the upstart Ibrahim backed by Senator McCain.

Senator Joe Biden “No one can accuse Turkey of having supported any terrorist organisation in Syria, including IS,” railed the aspiring neo-Ottoman Erdogan, attempting to deny what is common knowledge in the Middle East and worldwide. “If Biden told these words, then he will be history to me. I never uttered such remarks.” Erdogan advanced the grotesque claim that his government had not provided “even the smallest amount of support” to IS or any other terrorists: “Nobody can prove it. Foreign fighters never crossed from Turkey to Syria. There were people coming to Turkey as tourists and went to Syria, but nobody can suggest that they were armed while crossing the border.” These absurd statements refute themselves.

Erdogan continued: “I view [Biden's statement] with regret. I never admitted any mistake, nor did we tell them that they ‘were right’ during my visit to the US. If Mr. Biden uttered these remarks at Harvard, he should apologize. I’m saying this clearly. And we won’t accept slender, indirect explanations.”

Expert linguistic opinion is solicited as to whether Erdogan’s “He will be history” remark should be construed in the original Turkish as a death threat to Vice President , and therefore be inserted in the pattern of pro-terrorist War Party threats against the White House which have proliferated over recent days.
